Conference 2006 Report

The 8th Annual Conference was held at the Inn at Pima in Scottsdale, Arizona on October 31 to November 2, 2006.  The Conference started out with a day dedicated to learning about safety messages.  We had classes on abduction prevention, internet safety, bullying prevention and bicycle safety.

The morning of day two had two tracks - Clowning 101 or basic child safety education.  This track taught how to put on make up, create a character and basic safety magic.  The second track was Clowning 202 or advanced child safety education.  In this track they developed safety skits, learned how Frank Padilla, Jr. created a science safety presentation, and how to market.

In the afternoon, we saw presentations by Terry Ricketts on Manic Magic, Jeff McMullen on finding your character, and Dave Mitchell presented an entire class of safety magic routines. 

The instructor's show that night had many funny skits and routines!  Jim Howell performed a skit with a rabbit that we won't describe here. 

The final day of the conference we had a more great classes by Jeff and Dave.  In the afternoon we did a group picture and then presented the Billy Awards for outstanding articles in the S.M.I.L.E. Newsletter. 

We had the annual S.M.I.L.E. membership meeting and the new Board was elected.  The certificates were presented to all the attendees and instructors and the Conference came to a close for another year!
