CLOWN AID II WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!!!

Clown Aid II took place on November 3, 2000 at Coronado High School in Scottsdale.  The event set a record for the amount of money raised by a S.M.I.L.E. fundraiser - $5200.00!

The event was part of a community wide effort to raise $150,000.00 to assist the family of Nathan Wallace.  Nathan is the 20 month old son of Phoenix Police Officer Marty Wallace who is in need of his second liver transplant.  To date, the effort has raised more than $100,000.00!!!

Clown Aid II began with a carnival like atmosphere!  There were clowns making balloon animals, face painting, selling Clown Aid II t-shirts, and the Scottsdale Explorer Scouts were running the silent auction and raffle.  During this time, Persephone the renown local family entertainer was singing songs with the people who chose to go directly to their seats.

At 7:00 PM, the show began!  Willy the Clown and Buck L. Upp came out and welcomed everyone and explained why we were there (FOR NATHAN!!!).  Then, Little Misty came out and we found that we were missing one of the clowns and would need another clown.  Willey suggested we get one from the audience.  A "reluctant" audience volunteer was pulled up and turned into "Scooter the Clown" in front of the audience.  This was actually a choreographic routine with the entire cast helping out in the transformation.  Once Scooter was ready, he was taken back stage and "taught" some clown skills.

The Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Popsicle the Clown from the Scottsdale Unified School District.  He got everyone hip-hopping from the beginning of the show!  Next up - Elvis was in the building!  Elvis performed three songs and showed us how well he could ad-lib!  Elvis was followed by Scooter attempting magic then a skit from the Scottsdale Police Clowns.  Buck L. Upp and Louie the Monkey entertained and taught about bicycle safety, car safety and gun safety.

Elvis was IN the building at Clown Aid II!

The Phoenix Police 9-1-1 Clowns performed a skit, Scooter tried his hand at juggling, followed by Willey and Little Misty from the Scottsdale Police Department.

The end of the show was a kazoo band followed by a conga line of all the cast!

Following the show was the raffle.

Across town, Goober and Sgt. Pepper from the Mesa Police Department were doing a special show in Glendale and raised more than $100 "passing the hat" for Nathan!

This was a tremendous event that wouldn't have been so successful without the help of so many incredible groups:

The t-shirts had a completely different design from Clown Aid I!  They feature a police clown in a vintage antique convertible police car with a fire clown waving from behind the car.  The shirts were underwritten by the Arizona Crime Prevention Association, so 100% of t-shirt sale revenue went directly to help Nathan!
