Frequently Asked Questions:

Question: Do I have to be a Police Officer, Fire Fighter, or EMS Personnel to be a member of S.M.I.L.E.?

Answer: No! You can be a civilian employee, volunteer, or person interested in teaching safety messages to children. We have several professional magicians, clowns, and ventriloquists who are members.

Question: What if I don't work for or volunteer for a police, fire or EMS agency. Can I still join?

Answer: Yes! As we stated above, anyone interested in teaching safety messages to children is welcome to join S.M.I.L.E.!

Question: How do I join S.M.I.L.E.?

Answer: Go to the page called JOIN and download and print the membership form (you'll need the free program Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer). Complete the form and mail it to the address listed with a check for $25 (US). All memberships are per person, per calendar year. If you would like to see a copy of the critically acclaimed S.M.I.L.E. Newsletter "PUT A S.M.I.L.E. ON YOUR FACE™" prior to joining, go to the NEWSLETTER page (also using Adobe Acrobat Reader).

Question: What are the benefits of joining S.M.I.L.E.?

Answer: Members of S.M.I.L.E. receive the quarterly newsletter "PUT A S.M.I.L.E. ON YOUR FACE™" which is filled with routine ideas, interviews, resources, and much more! In addition, S.M.I.L.E. Members have access to special members only training's, discounts on the National Conference, monthly S.M.I.L.E. E-NEWS of new resources and information, and mentoring by Troupes.

Question: Can I only join S.M.I.L.E. if there is a S.M.I.L.E. Troupe in my town or do I have to form one?

Answer: No! You can join by yourself without a Troupe. If you don't have a Troupe in your community, you can start your own!

Question: How do I know if there is a S.M.I.L.E. Troupe in my community?

Answer: At this time, there is only one Troupe in the Metro Phoenix area. As more are started, we will include them to the list. If you want to find out if there is a troupe in your community or who to contact, please contact S.M.I.L.E. using the CONTACT THE BOARD form on the BOARD page of this website.

Question: Can members use the S.M.I.L.E. Logo on their websites, business cards and flyers?

Answer: Use of the logo must be approved in advance by the International Headquarters. Please submit a draft of the website, business card, or flyer - prior to printing or publishing - to the S.M.I.L.E. Organization using the CONTACT THE BOARD form on the BOARD page of this website. Please use a cover sheet with your fax with all of your relevant contact information. It is generally acceptable for members to use the logo with the phrase "Member of the S.M.I.L.E. (Safety Magic In Law Enforcement™) Organization".
